Maruti Suzuki India finally has a name for its taxi market-spec version of the Swift DZire. The taxi version, which is basically the first generation DZire has been christened as 'Swift DZire Tour' and will be available in both petrol and diesel options, but will only come in the base variant, i.e Lxi (petrol)  & Ldi (diesel.)




The taxi-spec DZire will come equipped with standard features such as AC, power steering, front and rear bumpers, outside rear-view mirrors and black door handles.



The Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire will come with a price tag of Rs 5.91 lakh for the diesel variant and Rs 4.88 lakh for the petrol variant. The DZire Tour will go on sale from April 2012 and will be sold only to taxi and fleet operators.

MARUTI SUZUKI NEW SWIFT DZire LAUNCHED

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. Wednesday introduced a shorter, cheaper version of its Swift Dzire sedan as part of efforts to retain its position as the country's largest car maker by sales.

The new Dzire is 3.95 meters in length, qualifying it for a lower federal excise tax, compared with the current 4.1 meter-long model.

The government imposes a 10% tax on cars measuring up to 4 meters in length. These cars can have a diesel engine of only up to 1.5 liters or a gasoline engine of up to 1.2-liters.

An excise tax of 22% is imposed on cars beyond 4 meters in length.

Mayank Pareek, managing executive officer of marketing and sales at Maruti, said the gasoline version of the new Dzire model will cost 479,000 rupees ($9,677)-619,000 rupees at New Delhi dealerships, while the diesel model will cost 580,000 rupees-709,000 rupees.

Mr. Pareek said the latest model will cost 25,000 rupees-30,000 rupees less than the existing model.

He added that Maruti will continue to market the existing model of the Swift Dzire but mainly target it at taxi operators.

The new Swift Dzire model is based on the Swift hatchback platform, he said, adding that Maruti has invested 2.2 billion rupees to build the new vehicle in addition to the 5.5 billion rupees invested in the new Swift platform.

Maruti Suzuki 's small car offering, the A-Star gets a refresh for the New Year. The company now offers the A-Star with new alloy wheels and an integrated rear spoiler.

On the interiors front, the 2012 A-Star gets dual tone beige and black upholstery. Maruti has also put in 50:50 split rear seats and more cubby holes in the cabin.

Airbags and ABS are now optional on the A-Star with two new colour options, Glistening Grey and Pearl Caffeine Brown.

Maruti Suzuki hasn't tinkered with the engine and the new A-Star retains the 998cc K10B petrol engine with 67PS of power and 90NM of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.

The new A-star is available in five variants - LXI, VXI, VXI AT, ZXI and ZXI (with ABS and airbags). Prices start from Rs 3.66 – Rs 4.40 lakh , ex-showroom Delhi.

Speaking at the launch, Shashank Srivastava, chief general manager, marketing said, "A-star is one of the most vibrant brands in our portfolio. Some of its high points such as contemporary styling, dynamic handling and ride quality, best in class turning radius, power, flat torque and superior performance has made A-star a popular choice especially amidst the youth. The smart modifications in the spiced-up A-star are in line with customer feedback and seek to enhance the overall look, feel and comfort of the buyers."

The car is MSI's Japanese parent Suzuki's fifth global model and it manufactured only at Manesar in India.

MSIL so sold a total of 3.81 lakh units of A-Star, which is the flagship export model of the company.

The company has exported over 2.81 lakh units so far to over 130 countries, primarily to the European markets such as the Netherlands, Italy, the UK, Spain & Germany. Other markets that have also contributed the car include Australia and South Africa.

Fiat -Tata to supply More diesel engines to Maruti Suzuki

High demand for Suzuki vehicles in India has prompted the Japanese automaker to boost its engine supply deal with Fiat by 100,000 units a year for the next three years.

The deal between Maruti Suzuki (of which Suzuki owns 54.2 percent) and the Fiat group will see Fiat's 56kW 1.3 litre MultiJet turbodiesel engines exported for use in Suzuki's Indian-market vehicles.

The engines will be built by another Italo-Indian joint venture between Tata and Fiat, at a plant in Maharashtra State.

Fiat and Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, Maruti’s parent, have reached an agreement for the supply of Fiat’s 1.3-litre, multi-jet, Bharat-IV diesel engine, to be produced under licence by Fiat India Automobiles (FIAL). FIAL is a  50 : 50 joint venture between Italy’s Fiat Group Automobile SpA and Tata Motors, India’s biggest vehicle manufacturer.

The JV company, based in Pune, owns the Rs 4,500-crore engine and transmission plant located at Ranjangaon, near Pune. The supplies will commence from this month till 2015.

“The engine will be installed on Suzuki-branded vehicles produced in India by Maruti Suzuki India for the local market. The production of the engines will start in the fourth week of January at FIAL’s Ranjangaon plant,” stated a release by Fiat India.

MSIL’s plan to buy the engines from an alien company is driven by excessive demand for its diesel models such as the Swift, DZire, SX4 and Ritz. The limited supply of engines forced Maruti to restrict the diesel offering to only four models. New models such as the multi-purpose Ertiga will have a diesel engine option. All of Maruti’s current line of diesel models use the same 1.3-litre multi-jet engine. These supply volumes from Fiat will be in addition to the same engine already licensed by Fiat and manufactured by Suzuki Powertrain India.

An IAB reader Rajesh Dogra has captured images of the all new Swift Dzire as it was being unloaded from its container in Jammu today. The all new Dzire has already started marching towards dealer yards and the launch is expected to unfold in the weeks ahead or dare I say days ahead.

The interior of the all new Dzire is laid out in the same manner as the Swift. Features such as steering-mounted audio controls, dual tone dashboard, five-speed manual transmission….to capsule it, the interior is a photocopy of the Swift’s!

Maruti has neatly differentiated the sedan from the hatch using a new grille, triangular fog lamp modules and unique wheel caps.

The spyshot provides answers to questions on the branding we raised this afternoon. Thankfully the new car will continue running under the same name.

The engine options in a previous post – 1.2-liter K Series petrol engine and 1.3-liter Fiat-sourced Multi-jet engine will stay on providing the motive force. The new Dzire is shorter compared to the current model, with length under four meters to take advantage of the excise benefits the government offers for cars that are under four meters long.

The Dzire nameplate is not very old (has existed only since Q1 2008) but the waiting periods are very too long, especially for the vdi & zdi model.

Maruti Suzuki has shared promotional footage of the Ertiga on its Facebook page. The video clipping provides a good look at the interior and exterior of India’s first compact 7 seat MPV. Maruti said it will offer front dual airbags, ABS and EBD on Ertiga variants.

The Ertiga is powered by a new K Series petrol engine displacing 1.4-liters churning out 94hp/130Nm and returning 16.02kmpl, and the familiar 1.3-liter diesel engine licensed by Fiat producing 86hp/200Nm while returning a class-leading mileage of 20.77 kmpl. The Ertiga is built using Swift parts and will be launched in late March or early April.

We expect Maruti to position the Ertiga above the Dzire, in the SX4 territory.
