At the heart of the new Pulsar is its cutting-edge engine which sets new benchmarks in performance, emission and incidentally also fuel efficiency. The DTS-i (Digital Twin Spark-ignition) technology launched in 2003 marked a unique first in the history of Indian Motoring.

The new Pulsar takes this technology altogether to another level with a SOHC 4-valve Triple Spark engine controlled by an advanced Electronic Control Unit for an absolutely unmatched performance. To support this exhilarating heart-pumping performance the bike comes with liquid cooling and a six speed gear box.

The Pulsar 200NS chassis comprises a pressed steel perimeter frame and a Rectangular tube section swing arm delivering over three times the lateral stiffness of a P220 frame. ( Bajaj Auto Ltd )Today introduced KTM Power Sports AG's 200 Duke motorcycle in India, expanding its portfolio of sports bikes.

Bajaj owns a 39.26% stake in Austria's KTM. The 200 Duke, priced at 117,500 rupees ($2,340) at showrooms in New Delhi, will be sold through 32 exclusive showrooms in 30 cities in India, Rajiv Bajaj, managing director at India's second-biggest motorcycle maker by sales, told a press conference.

"We are confident this will be a successful product," he said.

The bike will be powered by a 199.5 cc DOHC 4V engine that produces 25PS of power @ 10,000 rpm and 19Nm of torque @ 8,000 rpm. It will have a top speed of 135kmph, dual disc brakes for superior braking and 17″ radial tubeless tyres, and will have a power to weight ratio of 180PS/tonne.

KTM's chief executive, Stefan Pierer, had recently said the company aims to sell 25,000-30,000 motorcycles in India this year and 200,000 motorcycles globally a year in 2015.

Bajaj also sells the Kawasaki 250R and 650R sports bikes in India.

Bajaj Auto recently released its FY11-12 Q3 results and Rajiv Bajaj revealed alot of information on the upcoming launches from the company. Mr. Bajaj stressed several times on the fact that Bajaj Auto will be launching two very important yet break through products in the next four months. The first product is the KTM Duke 200, which we all are aware of, the bike which will be launched on the 24th of January 2012. The second product will be unveilied on the 30th of January in Mumbai and Mr. Bajaj did not divulge much details about what it could be. Sales of this product would commence in March. There is no doubt that this is the next generation Pulsar, which will be unveiled by the end of this month.

Bajaj Auto has already unveiled its RE60 4-wheeler, which is set to hit the roads by the end of the year. The next generation Pulsar has been increasingly spotted in and around Pune as testing continues of the definitely male bike. The reason for an unveil now and a launch after 2 months could be so that spy pictures remain absolutely minimal and the buzz around the next iteration of the Pulsar remains intact. Once Bajaj unveils the new Pulsar, it could send it for homologation at ARAI and would not have to worry much about the camouflaging used by the Government agency.

Bajaj also mentioned that they won’t be hiking prices of their motorcycles in the last quarter. The company has been able to maintain margins inspite of Rupee deprecating as 35% of its earnings are from exports. The margin on the Discover and Pulsar are almost similar so even if a buyer is forced to opt for a cheaper motorcycle due to the infavaourable economic conditions, the company is able to maintain its margins. The next generation Pulsar will see heavy influence from the KTM Duke, sharing many parts and components with it.

The cosmetic treatment of new BAJAJ PULSAR 135 LS was launched & match Bajaj is assembling the exterior body using differently coloured panels.

Update colour is only located on the existence of black striping on the Shroud and the presence of dark shades on the back of the P135. This is certainly different from previous versions where the distribution of colour is so solid from front to back. Visible at a glance no changes specs of engine & the other parts.  Facelifted version of this bike was in three colour variants available in red, blue and black solid.

The Pulsar line up, the 135 LS gets a gold-silver coloured clutch cover and all black finish on the rear grab rails and the clip-on style handlebars. Mechanically, the bike remains the same. The bike’s 135 cc engine still pumps out a healthy power figure of 13.5 PS @9000 RPM and a decent torque of 11.4 Nm@7500 RPM.

It may be noted that 135LS is the first Pulsar to boast 4 valve/cylinder engine layout , lightweight characteristic & a styling package that marks a departure from the traditional Pulsar design.

News of an all new generation of Pulsar has been doing rounds since quite sometime. Although, we have concrete information regarding the upcoming KTM-Bajaj Duke 200, not much has been found out about the new Pulsar yet. But it is anybody’s guess that the new Bajaj Pulsars will take enough cues from the KTM Duke 125 and 200. Now, there is a strong news of the new Bajaj Pulsar being all set to receive the base motor of the KTM Duke 200 along with re-worked mechanicals, state of tune and gearbox. This simply translates into a possibility of a 6 speed tranny being offered on the Bajaj Pulsar 200. However, there is also a chance of the liquid cooled cylinder being dumped in favor of an air cooled block. But going by the obvious ( for a new Pulsar ) & the competition for ZMR, R15, etc......getting more aggressive the engine should sustain the four valves per cylinder and DOHC layout.

The suspention on the all new Pulsar could also be sourced from the Duke and we have always maintained that a monoshock has been long over due for Pulsar.

There is a strong chance of the next generation Bajaj Pulsar 200 to be priced above the current flagship like Pulsar 220 DTSi.  It may be noted that there are next to no spy pics of a next gen Bajaj Pulsar being tested in and around the Bajaj factory even when Bajaj has told that the launch will happen sometime towards the end of January 2012. So, it is logical to assume that Bajaj is looking at retaining plenty of existing components on the Pulsar. The remaining will be taken from KTM.

Bajaj needs to price the new Pulsar at a price point well below the upcoming KTM.

Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle completes 10 years, still going strong as India's highest selling performance motorcycle brand

It was on 24th November 2001, that largest scooter manufacturer in India, Bajaj Auto launched their first Pulsar motorcycle. At that time, it was difficult to convince people to buy Bajaj motorcycles as they were majorly a scooter manufacturer. If you were to buy a Bajaj motorcycle, a decade ago, people would wonder and ask you bewildered, why are you buying a Bajaj motorcycle when there is Hero Honda (now Hero MotoCorp).

Bajaj Auto knew about this, but they were driven by strong belief and motivation to excel as a motorcycle manufacturer. It was important for Bajaj Auto to make this shift from scooter manufacturer to motorcycle manufacturer as scooters were losing their classic charm to new age powerful motorcycles with disc brakes and alloy wheels.

Back in 1990 - 2000 motorcycle market in India consisted of 100 cc motorcycles. As Indian motorcycle buyers were not at all interested in performance, sales of motorcycles in India were driven due to their higher fuel efficiency and low cost of maintenance. When Hero Honda launched 150 cc motorcycle, CBZ in 1999 with disc brakes, India noticed and suddenly there was a rise in demand for performance motorcycles in the country.

By the time Hero Honda launched CBZ, Bajaj had already started working on their version of 150 cc motorcycle, Pulsar. Bajaj Pulsar was designed with help from German motorcycle artist and designer, Glynn Kerr. Bajaj took 36 months and Rs 1 billion to develop Pulsar.

It will not be right to say that Bajaj Pulsar was a hit right away. The design was a winner. Motorcycle enthusiasts in India loved the raw design of Pulsar, but there were customers who were still apprehensive about buying a Bajaj motorcycle. Slowly and steadily, Bajaj Pulsar got the best advertisement possible, word of mouth.

Sales started picking up exponentially. Bajaj was now the leader in 150 cc segment of motorcycles. Mr V G Ramakrishnan, Director at market analysis and consulting firm, Frost & Sullivan, said, "Pulsar was a killer product for Bajaj Auto. There was a huge gap between the 100cc and the higher-end bikes. Pulsar filled the gap and killed all the products around it over the years."

Bajaj have managed to keep the spark in Pulsar series alive by launching different variants over the years. As of today, Bajaj Pulsar is available in 4 engine variants, 135 cc, 150 cc, 180 cc and top of the line 220 cc. Bajaj had earlier stated that they will be launching yet another variant of Pulsar very soon in India. Bajaj Pulsar is even exported and has a decent market share in countries abroad.

The next generation Bajaj Pulsars are just a month away from their officially revealed and spottings of the new motorcycle have started to increase. A motor beam reader recently spotted the next generation Bajaj Pulsar in Pune , on the road to Bajaj Auto’s plant. This particular road is a very high speed one and is the ideal place to test the high speed dynamics of any machine. Rough patches in between will also help Bajaj engineers to better tune the suspension of the next generation Bajaj Pulsars, which will be showcased at the 2012 Auto Expo in india .

The all new Bajaj Pulsars will be big leap from the current model. As can be seen in the pictures, the rear is a evolution of the current Pulsar, while certain parts seem to be borrowed from KTM. As these are pre-production models, the rear mudguard and saree guard are missing. The next generation 2012 Pulsars might utilize powertrains from KTM, including the 125cc and 200cc engines which could be re-bored to make the 150cc and 180cc version of the Pulsar. With the KTM Duke 200 unofficially confirmed to be priced at Rs. 1.25 lakhs, we can expect the 2012 Bajaj Pulsar 200/220 to be priced around Rs. 1 lakh (all prices ex-showroom, Pune) .

Undeterred by the slowdown in the automobile market, two wheeler manufacturers in India aim to post decent sales this financial year, buoyed by good sales in November.

While Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer India Yamaha aims to sell over four lakh units this year, rival Bajaj Auto plans to post sales of four million units this fiscal.

India Yamaha Motor Director-Sales and Marketing Jun Nakata said they planned to sell over four lakh units, aiming to garner a 10 per cent market share in the next few years.

"We are looking to sell 4.80 lakh motorcycles this fiscal and are looking to achieve overall 10 per cent market share over the next few years", India Yamaha Motor Director (Sales and Marketing Jun Nakata said.

In November alone, India Yamaha reported a 29.20 per cent increase on total sales at 39,162 units. The company had sold 30,310 units in the same month last year.

Sales in the domestic market grew by 24.08 per cent as the company sold 28,178 units against 22,710 units in the same month last year.

There was good news on the export front too for India Yamaha, with a whopping 44.53 per cent jump in sales to 10,984 units during the month from 7,600 units a year ago.

Asked about the sluggish automobile market conditions, Nakata said the company was much affected by it. "We have none or very less impact so far. We expect growth be around 15 per cent in the industry", he said.

Auto-analysts said increasing fuel prices and high interest rates prompt many buyers to go for two-wheelers than cars. However there could be an impact in the high performance bikes in the above 150 CC category, they said.

Nakata however struck a positive note, saying sales for India Yamaha will be at the present level and sales of premium segment growth would remain the same.

Chandrashekar , General Manager, Marketing and Sales, Bajaj Auto said that the company expects to sell over four million units this fiscal.

"The impact in the passenger car business is because of various reasons, including interest rates and fuel prices .If a car owner feels the pinch, then two-wheelers always come as an option," he said.

He reiterated that two-wheeler industry was growing at 13-15 per cent year-on-year.

In November Bajaj Auto registered a 25 per cent jump on motorcycle sales at 3,31,967 units. The company sold 2,65,036 units in the corresponding month last year.

Total sales in November stood at 3,74,477 units up by 25 per cent as against 2,99,231 units sold in the same period the previous year.

There seems to be some hope for all those Pulsar fans are to buy new pulsar as Bajaj finally after months of speculations announced that they will be launching the New Pulsar 2012 in December in view of celebrating 10 years of the brand. However, they we quick to clarify that this will just be a sneak peak at the bike and not the official launch, which will definitely happen in 2012, as the bike is expected in showrooms in 2012. Though BALs MD Rajiv Bajaj has made high claims that the bike will include technology that no other bike in the world can compete with, we are hopeful that the bike will meet these high expectations. This new technology will first appear on the new Pulsar but will slowly be employed in other brands too. “We launched the first Pulsar in November 2001 and are now ready with a 100 per cent new bike with remarkable engine technology. It is really the next big step after DTS-i,” said Mr BAJAJ .

The bike maker has decided to defer the preview and launch to a later date. The bike will now be shown only by the end of January after the Expo 2012 is over. Bajaj Auto will not be showcasing any two wheelers at this year’s Expo, as the focus will be on exhibiting its new four wheeled products, including a new commercial vehicle and most likely the more refined version of its ULC, or the Ultra Low Cost car. The new Pulsar, in all probability will now be showcased to the media during the last week of January.

While that may sound like bad news to a lot of Pulsar fans, the good news is that there is finally some clarity on the KTM 200 Debut. BAJAJ Auto will start giving the motoring journo community the first test ride of the machine in a couple of days, which means that the launch cannot be too far away.
