Honda Motorcycles @ Auto Expo 2012

Honda Motorcycles @ Auto Expo 2012

Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd ( HMSI ) launched a new 110cc commuter motorcycle called the Dream Yuga and a new Dio with an 110cc engine at the 2012 Auto Expo. But the biggest surprise was the launch of the Honda CBR150R. The CBR150R has light and compact DOHC engine which produces a peak power of 18PS at 10,500rpm and peak torque of 12.6Nm at 7500rpm. The bike has a twin tubular frame which increases stability. The engine is liquid cooled and has fuel injection. The bike will have front and rear disc brakes, mono-suspension and wide front and rear tubeless tyres. It also has an advance O2 sensor and air inductor to reduce the emissions. The CBR150R will be available in two variants – Standard and Deluxe. The CBR150R shares most body panels with the bigger CBR 250R. The CBR 150R is expected to be priced below Rs 1.2 lakh .

Honda also launched a new tri-colour CBR 250R which will be available for sale in dealerships from February 2012.

The key focus for Honda was however the unveiling of their first mass motorcycle in India, the Dream Yuga, which will launch in May 2012. The Dream Yuga is powered by an 110cc engine making 9PS. Honda claims that it will return 72kmpl. Honda are providing the option of tubeless/tuff up tube. This bike will be available in three variants, kick/drum/spoke, kick/drum/alloy and self/drum/alloy. The bike looks quite similar to Honda’s 125cc commuter, the Shine and will come in five colour options.

The new Dio replaces its 102cc engine with the 110cc from the Activa. It now develops 9PS of power and along with certain technologies like reduced cooling fan diameter, valve spring load and roller rocker arm, Honda claims that it is 15 per cent more fuel efficient. The 2012 Honda Dio also gets tubeless tyres and combi-brakes. Honda claims that they have increased the leg space at the front as well. The refreshed Dio will be available for sale from end of January 2012.

Honda’s CB Shine has also been given a refresh with new graphics and a 3D emblem. The 2012 Shine also gets handle bar end weights, tuff up tube tyres and an option of a 240mm disc brake in the front.

Honda also showcased their two superbikes, the VT 1300CX and 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade. The VT1300CX is a chopper powered by a 1312cc V-twin engine while the Fireblade is a 20th anniversary edition. It gets a ‘balance free rear cushion’, revised fuel injection settings, new wheels and an advanced LCD instrument panel.  The 2012 CBR1000RR Fireblade will be available for sale at Honda owned exclusive Wing World showrooms in Delhi and Mumbai from this month itself.

BIKE MANUFACTURES -SLOW DOWN THEIR TARGETS

BIKE MANUFACTURES -SLOW DOWN THEIR TARGETS

Undeterred by the slowdown in the automobile market, two wheeler manufacturers in India aim to post decent sales this financial year, buoyed by good sales in November.
While Japanese two-wheeler manufacturer India Yamaha aims to sell over four lakh units this year, rival Bajaj Auto plans to post sales of four million units this fiscal.

India Yamaha Motor Director-Sales and Marketing Jun Nakata said they planned to sell over four lakh units, aiming to garner a 10 per cent market share in the next few years.

"We are looking to sell 4.80 lakh motorcycles this fiscal and are looking to achieve overall 10 per cent market share over the next few years", India Yamaha Motor Director (Sales and Marketing Jun Nakata said.

In November alone, India Yamaha reported a 29.20 per cent increase on total sales at 39,162 units. The company had sold 30,310 units in the same month last year.

Sales in the domestic market grew by 24.08 per cent as the company sold 28,178 units against 22,710 units in the same month last year.

There was good news on the export front too for India Yamaha, with a whopping 44.53 per cent jump in sales to 10,984 units during the month from 7,600 units a year ago.

Asked about the sluggish automobile market conditions, Nakata said the company was much affected by it. "We have none or very less impact so far. We expect growth be around 15 per cent in the industry", he said.

Auto-analysts said increasing fuel prices and high interest rates prompt many buyers to go for two-wheelers than cars. However there could be an impact in the high performance bikes in the above 150 CC category, they said.

Nakata however struck a positive note, saying sales for India Yamaha will be at the present level and sales of premium segment growth would remain the same.

Chandrashekar , General Manager, Marketing and Sales, Bajaj Auto said that the company expects to sell over four million units this fiscal.

"The impact in the passenger car business is because of various reasons, including interest rates and fuel prices .If a car owner feels the pinch, then two-wheelers always come as an option," he said.

He reiterated that two-wheeler industry was growing at 13-15 per cent year-on-year.

In November Bajaj Auto registered a 25 per cent jump on motorcycle sales at 3,31,967 units. The company sold 2,65,036 units in the corresponding month last year.

Total sales in November stood at 3,74,477 units up by 25 per cent as against 2,99,231 units sold in the same period the previous year.

HONDA IS PLANNING LAUNCH NEW PRODUCTS IN
2012 AUTO EXPO IN INDIA

HMSI (HONDA MOTORCYCLE & SCOOTER INDIA ) had earlier set a target for itself of selling 2.1 Mn
units in the Financial Year 2012. Now, the company is even more confident of achieving its target within the specified time.

According to one of the latest news article in Financial Chronicle, ‘While other two wheeler makers such as Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj and TVS reported fall in sales in the range of 5-15 per cent in October when compared with September this year, Honda Motorcycle managed to maintain its sales volumes with a marginal drop in sales. The company sold 178,181 two wheelers in October, against 178,146 units in September.’ This figure clearly reveals the potential of the company in the Indian market.
To take these figures forward during the FY 2012, HMSI has also planned to launch two new products in the next year out of which one will be a bike and the other a scooter. But, we’ve no clues on what category would these new products be falling under. It’s not to be forgotten that Honda Activa was indeed a game changer when coming to the scooter segment in the Indian two wheeler market.
Talking about the plans of the company, Mr. NK Rattan, Vice – President – Sales & Marketing told, “We expect this growth momentum to continue. We plan to sell 21 lakh units from our Manesar and Tapukara plant and end the fiscal FY’11-12 with an estimated 27 per cent growth over 16.56 lakh units sold in FY’10-11. We are on track to achieve this target.”
The reason for them to stay on track achieving their target is their new plant which started its operation from the month of July this year in Tapukara, Rajasthan. The first phase of this plant with an installed capacity of 0.6 million units production capacity has already been completed. With the second factory of HMSI in the same state of Rajasthan, the company intends to increase the total capacity of its production to a whooping 1.2 Mn units by the month of March 2012.
As a customer , this should rejoice every single customer of HMSI who is either waiting to het its product delivered after waiting for many long months besides satisfying the frequent customer issue of unavailability of spare parts for Honda products. Mr. Rattan said in the interview, “This shall ease out the waiting period to less than one month.”
Currently, almost all Honda products are facing a waiting period of 90 days to as much as 180 days and at times even more. This had only added woes to the customers in the recent past.
He also said the present order booking is around 60 days and the company is in a position to serve its customers faster. “Aviator and CBF Stunner are doing very well,” he added without providing any further details on the statement

The company’s new scooter will most likely be showcased in Delhi Auto Expo which is scheduled to take place in the month of January 2011. One info we’ve got about the company’s yet to be launched bike is that it’s gonna be targeting the youth of the nation exclusively. This news makes us go crazy now. This simply means that the bike is gonna be worth the wait. But, unfortunately its only he scooter which will be showcased and not the bike. The bike will be launched only by the end of current fiscal year. The two launches is solely done with the intention of boosting the company’s sales further which enhance the HMSI in achieving their target specified above on time.
Further, to meet the growing demand o Honda’s products in theSouthern part of the country, the company has recently laid the foundation stone for its third manufacturing facility in the state of Karnataka. With its expansion from 16.5 lakh units in FY2010-11 to 40 lakh units in early half of the year 2013, HMSI hopes to reduce waiting periods for all its products in the portfolio.
Mr. Subrata Ray, Senior Vice-President, Corporate Ratings, Icra mentioned in one of his comments, “HMSI continues to maintain its leadership position in the scooters segment through its flagship brand Activa (besides Aviator and Dio) enjoying a market share of 45.4 per cent in Q2, 2011- 12.”
The figures seems really impressive for a company like Honda with ling waiting periods though its taking all necessary steps to reduce it. We just want our readers to stay with us at the time of Delhi Auto Expo as we’ll bring more insights onto these products. Do open up your discussion on the new products from Honda in the box below.
